Research
The Centre’s primary focus is on applied health economics research in four main areas:
- health care financing and insurance;
- health costs and ageing;
- the economic burden of illness and injury; and
- the economics of compensation schemes.
Governance
The academic staff and students at ACERH are independent academics who are subject to the governance of the university at which they are employed. There is a node Director at each of the two universities in ACERH, to whom the staff at that University are responsible. The Directors of the two nodes are Professor Jim Butler (ANU) and Professor Luke Connelly (UQ). The two Directors are responsible for the strategic direction and overall functioning of the Centre.
Funding
ACERH derives most of its income from competitive, national research grants from the NHMRC and the Australian Research Council (ARC). It also engages in research partnerships with industry (e.g., under the ARC-Linkage scheme).
Engagement
ACERH holds regular seminars, research forums, and policy forums. It also publishes a Research Report series and a Working Paper series. These initiatives are designed to foster ACERH’s engagement with the broader scientific community, industry and government.
