Dr Sidorenko undertook her first PhD in probability theory, following which she became a graduate student at Yale in economics. Her PhD at ANU dealt with various aspects of health insurance. Her postgraduate research has focused on models of demand for medical care and health insurance, including the design of private hospital reimbursement schemes for private health insurers. She is also undertaking research on globalisation of health services, recently completing projects on the international mobility of health care professionals in ASEAN and on costs and benefits of liberalisation of international trade in health services in APEC. Other research interests include domestic regulation and its impact on international trade in services. Dr Sidorenko has worked as a consultant to the World Bank and other organisations on various aspects of trade in services, and has presented her work in this area at several international forums.

Her research activities at ACERH, undertaken jointly with Professor McKibbin, will concentrate on modelling the macroeconomic burden of infectious diseases. She has completed a study on the macroeconomic costs of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Ukraine, and will continue this line of research by further integrating models of infectious disease dynamics into the G-Cubed CGE model developed by Professor McKibbin.
