Nora Markova has over 10 years of work experience in health economics, involving academic, corporate, government and consultancy work. In addition to her DPhil and MSc from the University of Oxford( UK) and Masters from UNWE (Bulgaria), she has qualifications in health and health care research from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and the World Bank Institute and Summelweis University, Hungary. Dr Markova was involved in the establishment of a National Health Insurance Fund in Bulgaria, she was a director of a Global Development Network research project, and has held research positions in the International Monetary Fund, USA, and the World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University, Finland.
Her teaching experience ranges from graduate courses at the University of Oxford to international development programmes of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and the Ministry of Health (Bulgaria) project for Cooperation and Support of the Health Care Reform in Bulgaria.
Dr Markova’s research interests include equity in health and health care, health care and poverty, health care systems financing, health care reforms in the transition countries and health of minority groups.
