Dr Khanam has 10 years teaching and research experience at The University of Southern Queensland, The University of Sydney and The University of Chittagong. She received her PhD in economics from The University of Sydney in 2006. Her earlier research has focussed on the issues of child labour and some aspects of macroeconomics and public finance.
Her research interests include:
- Health, education and human capital accumulation
- The economics of child labour and schooling
- Applied econometrics
- Aging, healthy ageing and health care expenditure.
- Health, socioeconomic status and household economics.
- Impact of health policy
Her current research will focus on health production function and the effects of socioeconomic factors and lifestyle factors on health status. Dr Khanam’s special research focus will be on the comparison of health outcomes of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander, non-English-speaking - background and English-speaking-background children.
