Dr Jackson comes to ACERH from LaTrobe University where she was the principal researcher on grants to investigate the incidence and costs of hospital-acquired injury and illness. She gained her PhD at The Heller School of Social Policy, Brandeis University in the US , where she held a Pew Health Policy Fellowship and was part of the team developing U.S. reimbursement policy for ambulatory care.

Her research interests include defining and measuring hospital products and costs, the use of economics in health care coverage decision-making, cost-effectiveness analysis, and funding mechanisms for public hospitals. She serves on the Medical Services Advisory Committee to the Commonwealth Minister for Health.

Dr Jackson will continue her work on hospital-acquired injury, and work with ACERH colleagues in using the linked longitudinal dataset incorporating Western Australian and Commonwealth data to estimate the post-discharge costs of hospital-acquired injury and illness. She will contribute to Centre projects on the validation and use of routinely-recorded health care data in economics research, and on measuring hospital costs.
